3GBrakes are a well-established precision engineering business, working within the aerospace and automotive sectors.

More recently they have turned there attention to producing a wide range of performance discs for automobile enthusiasts. 3GBrakes Manufacture in-house which allows them to exercise complete control over the quality. Utilising the latest CNC machinery provides the accuracy required for safety critical performance braking components. But you will be pleased to know that they still provide the hand finished touch to the discs.

There are two main types of disc offered by 3G, the RS-10 which is a 10 groove disc with cross drilled dimples (not completely drilled - as this is becoming a well know reason for discs cracking!) and the 20-GR, a 20 groove disc with no drillings. In this article we will be focusing on the 20-GR version using EBC Green Stuff Pads.

As 3GBrakes dont actually make pads themsleves they suggest two pad applications for use with there discs, Mintex (mainly for track days and the like) and EBC Green Stuff (for day to day fast road use), both of which can be purchased through 3GBrakes.

Installation was easy enough and within half an hour from getting them out of the packaging they were on the car (MK2 XR2) and ready to be used...well not properly, as they recommend at least a 200 mile running in period...during which time no silly driving should be attempted or games of lets see how late we can brake before the roundabout!!!

The brakes themselves are of a fantastic quality...having looked at some other more well know brake companies products there would be very little to tell them apart if anything at all! The machining is very good and the overall finish lets you know that you are dealing with a top quality product...also being priced at £84.00 for the RS-10's and £89.00 for the 20-GR's you will be very hard pushed to find a more feature filled disc for the money.

So, what are they like...

...First off we will look at...well the looks of the brakes...after all some people do go very much on looks as opposed to how well they work or as I like to say "form over function"

The discs as mentioned above are finished really nicely and you can tell they are a quality product...behind my alloys they looked just as good if not better than out of the box and gave the car a more aggressive look...in other words they look the business!

so on to the function, do they stop as well as they look? In short the answer is yes! This combination of 3GBrakes Discs and EBC Pads is one fo the best I have used to date (Which is quite a few, including some of the big brake companies out there!).

The initial bite is superb and can knock 20 mph or more off your speed in the blink of an eye, this is helped by EBCs pads as they do not need to get as hot as some other pads before working at their optimum.

Where the discs really come into there own - particlualry regarding the grooves, is when braking from fast speeds down to a stop. It is possible to knock masses of speed off in a blink of an eye and the car remained stable throughout and without brake fade.

Due to the fact that the discs are grooved the pads should stay in optimal condition as they deglaze the pad particularly when giving your car a thrash. They also help to remove water in the wet and any grit or other unwanted objects from the disc surface.

So in conclusion these brakes, stop you superbly, look great and cost you much less than virtually any other recognised manufacturer of discs out there. In short, you cant go wrong with a set of 3GBrakes discs.
