Dave's RST sitting pretty

When you look through all the different colours of Escort Turbo that came from the factory, silver is not one that springs to mind, mainly because as far as we know they were not produced in silver. So what is this example then you may be asking yourself? Well it has been sprayed by Ford and although nigh on every aspect of it is original RS Turbo gear...it actually started life as a 1.3 Bonus via a 1.6 Carb engine!

The car was absolutely mint when Dave got his hands on it and had only done 48k miles from new with just one previous owner looking after it (and well from the look of it)

Side profile shows just how nicely this turbo sits on its 17" wheels

Before anyone thinks its just had a RS engine dropped in, think again...brakes, engine, interior, bodykit and every last bit of Escort RS Turbo clobber have been sourced and lovingly fitted to Dave's Escort.

Of course there would be little point in going to all that effort without modifying it at the same time, and Dave has certainly done that..

...This tubby sits proudly on 17" Ford 7 spoke alloys wrapped in Pirelli P7000 rubber, and the wheels are tucked away under the arches nicely thanks to a 40mm drop from the Spax suspension kit fitted.

rear end looks clean and fresh
Dave has kept a nice theme going by adding clears all round including these rather nice rear light clusters that help continue the fresh silver theme going, as well as modernising the rear end somewhat.
Mint interior graces this Escort

Inside a mint '88 spec genuine RS turbo interior can be found and this interior really had been looked after well with the recaros feeling as if they were brand new and with no sign of the dreaded saggy side bolsters.

A few nice touches including the Nomad boost gauge and white dial kit can also be found gracing Dave's interior.

Nomad boost gauge nicely installed in-dash

As previously mentioned a full RS turbo engine and running gear has been dropped in and has been tinkered with to compliment the rest of the car.

A Mongoose stainless exhaust with 3" tail pipe helps give this turbo the distinctive burble that we all know and love and looks excellent next to the gleaming silver bodywork...

...The car is currently running a healthy amount of boost for the mods and is utilising a superchip to aid its hike in power...this combined with the low compression rebuilt engine, ported and polished head, Piper 285 T2 cam are helping Dave to see the times as mnetioned above and to a claimed 200bhp.

Just in case there is any confusion as to what it is a Bailey dump valve reassures people it is as real as it can get and is certainly running turbo power!

Tidy engine bay complete with chrome goodies!
Under bonnet is very tidy and is complemented by the likes of an Alloy header tank and a whole host of other chrome goodies and Samco's, with still plenty more on the way!
Brakes are dwarfed by the huge rims

The RS Turbo brakes look tiny upfront compared to the huge 17" alloys, but at this kinda of power output they are more than upto the job...particularly when given a helping hand by EBC's Green Stuff brake pad.

So this just goes to show you that there are other ways to get to your goal and that if you can't afford what you want in one hit you can get to where you want, and as in this case be unique about its end result.

The RS Turbo looks great in silver and I almost think Ford missed out by not making this one of the colours it was mass produced in, although from Ford it would of obviously not looked this good!

With its recent Ford respray, new headlights, indicators, side repeaters and rear clusters this really is stupidly clean and tidy and a top example of what you can do with a bit of time and money and a lot of determination!
