After a short existence in the grand scheme of things for fordsport, the club chairman Gary took it upon himself to take the plunge with the club and put on there own National Weekend with the thought in mind of getting loads of members together having a bloody good laugh and with the hands on of having a go down the 1/4 mile strip!

He succeeded in doing this with great effect and below you can see just how those that went, got on over the bank holiday weekend that was FordSport National!

With a long drive for us southern folk we made our way up mid afternoon on the saturday with the aim of getting there for about 7:00 pm - this unfortunately went a bit to pot as we got lost, had to stop a few times and generally ponced about a bit...we eventually arrived about 9:00 pm to be greated by John (who was an absolute life saver over the weekend incidentally) and franticaly set about putting up our tents before ripping the top off a few beer bottles and getting on with things...

...all around us people had throw away bbq's on the go with all sorts of grub being cooked...we even heard of bacon, pizzas and worse than that being cooked on them but each to their own! :) A big thanks at this point to Ben from Performance Ford mag who not only made the trip up to join us but also cooked his misses but more importantly me my dinner! Cheers mate!

As daylight came it was time to wake up and shake off the hangovers, or watch others cooking breakfast to help shake them off...As scrutineering was just round the corner for all those running down the strip at York!

As a few more members joined us on the Sunday morning they were pretty much filed straight in to the holding queue after being scrutinised and we had a lengthy queue then stretching back of fordsporters ready to rip it up the strip!

As the final 1/4 mile contenders moved there cars from the previous nights camping up positions into the scrutineering / holding lane those content with showing there pride and joy in a static manner began shuffling the cars to arrange the club stand...complete with banners and flag which really made it stand out and helped to make the fordsport presence felt!

Back onto the 1/4 strip and runs had begun with an exclusive session to fordsport members kicking things off with many runs had by all before the normal categories plus a fordsport only category came into force late morning.

On the strip in the X category from fordsport Ben Birch (PF Mag Co-Editor) piloted Steve Scotts A1 Rallye Sport Focus to a stonking 12.7 1/4 @ 119 Mph which considering its not Ben's car and it is notoriously difficult for anyone other than driving supremo Steve himself to launch!

Another hot runner of the day who ended up in effect coming second overall was Rob in his gleaming Series 2 Escort RS Turbo running just a hint or so off N2O helping him achieve a personal best of 14.7 @ 98 Mph

All the competitors who attended the clubs recent XR Thrash also bettered there times so there were smiling faces all round on the drag strip bar a over tightened wheel bearing that ended up welding itself on!!! Luckily a local Halfords supplied a replacement and Mark - the owner, spent a good few hours replacing this and a few other bits before near the end of the day piling round and round getting as many runs as possible in! Nice effort Mark!!!

All the while the strip action was going on there were still some feeling the repercussions from the previous nights drinking or were just chilling in the glorious hot sunshine, some even managed to drink bowls full of tea - but seeing as John was and is so helpful we can forgive him for that!
As the Sunday drew to a close it was time to pack up tents and move on to the Sunday nights camping location at Brantingham park where the EYRSOC were putting on a bit of a do!
