| It's not often you see an XR2 that is as well looked after as this monster owned by James from Colchester. Apart from the obvious mods, such as an MC Rallying Cosworth style front bumper and prototype bonnet scoop the list of what James has done is almost endless... |

Lets start at the front. The most striking thing is the Huge front bumper James has fitted, although not happy with it, it certainly provides a suitable alternative to the front end found on a typical XR2! Clear lights fill the new bumper along with clear indicators and clear rear light clusters to finish the back off. The list of exterior mods goes on...James has, as we understand it, what will soon be a widely available bonnet scoop provided by MC Rallying and it certainly looks fantastic as well as being functional in cooling the engine! |

Moving along to the side, you can see that 15" Twisters adorne the XR, wrapped in 45 Profile Falken ZE-502 rubber. Door handles have been colour coded and the rear quarter bumpers and where the aerial used to be have both been smoothed over. James has also lowered it using Bilstein shocks and springs and it is now sitting around 35mm lower than it used to when running on Uncle Henry's standard shocks and springs, this has stiffened the handling and ride up a huge amount and has seriously complemented what was already pretty good handling as standard. |

Moving swiftly on to the arse end of the XR where the die hard fans out there will notice several differences... The rear wiper and lock have both been removed and smoothed over, along with the rear bumper. The most obvious modification is the replacement of the old light clusters with this seasons clear version. All this ensures that the rear end of this XR is almost as smooth as the rear end of a baby! |
So, has the interior been left stock? Of course not. The front seats now consist of a pair of Escort RST Recaros which hug you like only a good lady can...This combined with the aftermarket steering wheel, alloy pedals, gear knob and colour coded dash / door cards all combine to produce what is a very respectable interior. |

Now we move onto the performance side of things...The standard 1600CVH lump that graces the XR2 is still as per the factory minus the fact that a Piper cam now graces its upper breaches, this teamed up with an alloy vernier wheel also from Piper have certainly boosted the rev limits and performace of this XR. James has also seen fit to replace the standard air box with a K&N bolt on type and he has replaced the standard exhaust system for one of the Magnex variety consisting of four branch Manifold and system. Splitfire duel core HT leads and uprated spark plugs can be found in the engine bay helping to increase the flow of current!
What car would be complete without a sprinkling of I.C.E. and this example is no different...along with the security to go with it! All in all, a fine example of a modified XR2 with some great personal touches of styling and inventiveness. |
