On the 20th June fordsport in conjunction with Performance Ford Magazine held a fiesta shootout at Bruntingthorpe proving grounds.

12 of the clubs fiestas arrived bright and early to battle it out over the various disciplines including 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile and top speed.

The range on display was very impressive varying from a standard mk2 xr2 (giving a good base for standard times over the disciplines) right through to 1900 low compression turbo’d mk2’s and a 180bhp 2.0 zetec mk1 on throttle bodies.

After arriving customarily late everyone disembarked and began mingling about chatting to those they had not met before and catching up with those they had. The atmosphere was great, the weather was lovely and warm and even Ben and Keith from Performance Ford magazine had made it along with snapper for the day Tricky.

With the first lot of runs taking place casualties were appearing thick and fast, Chris Fosters imperial blue XR decided to spit oil everywhere including, his dump valve, intercooler and pretty much anywhere it could get at...an hour or two later and Chris had removed all offending parts and cleaned it up as best he could to enable some more fun to be had!

Rich Wise (Rolls) was also having some serious oil problems with a oil breather line coming loose and causing him to spend most of the morning on his back getting dirty - no change there then! Eventually a "bodge" was in place and Rolls managed some pretty respectable times - especially considering the lack of boost he was running that day!

Others on the injured list included Paul and Shelley's Mk2 that spat through its core plug leaving a messy antifreeze coloured pool on the floor - but a local ford suppliers had the right size plug in stock and a whack of a hammer later and they were back in business!

Unfortunately the FastFords project fiesta fell prey too and after getting a bit greedy with the nitrous and inadvertently surpassing the fuelling systems limit melted a spark plug, piston and bent 2 valves!!! That ruled the car out for the rest of the day although it did manage to set the fastest time to 60 and over the 1/4 before retiring - so not a bad day!

One by one the cars came back from there runs where the precious data was downloaded to the waiting laptop and the owner was told how well or not so well they had done.

Some great times were set as can be seen in the table below...and despite a few mishaps as mentioned above, the day went very smoothly, so much so there was even time for a bit of a muck about at the end as can be seen from the movie clips in the "Movies" section. All in all some quick times were set, most problems were fixed and a brilliant time was had by all who came!
